SWORD by Da ChenHi everyone!

The mass market paperback reissue of my Mona Lisa series comes out in two months, but this is mostly to share news about family and my crazy, busy summer. Hubby first then my children.

My husband's young adult fantasy comes out tomorrow...

SWORD by Da Chen

"Instead of seeing the matchmaker on her 15th birthday, [Miu Miu] undertakes the task of avenging the murder of her father's murder, a swordmaker put to death by the Emperor after making the perfect blade...Fans of Asian martial-arts movies and manga will be satisfied and eager for the second volume, due in the fall."
—Kirkus Reviews

Now, on to my son, Michael. Yes, the same boy whose comment, at the age of six, prodded me into becoming an author. He's ten now and I spent the summer mostly on him instead of writing. He landed a starring role in a small independent movie called "The Kids Are Alright," written and directed by Tze Chun.

What an experience. I never knew actors had to work so hard. A total of 22 days of filming for him—25 days for the entire film. Which means that, yes, he was in almost every scene. Yay...and groan. This kid worked 12-hour days under brutally hot conditions (air conditioning had to be turned off during filming, which was most of the time), plus 3-4 hours of commuting time daily on top of this. Do you blame me for not getting any writing done?! Michael, of course, had a grand time. Not one word of complaint...what a kid. Me, though, awk! I'm ten years too old for such a grueling schedule! Give me a writer's life any day.

My daughter, 13, is off to prep school, a boarding academy in Massachusetts, tomorrow. Isn't that so cool? I'm so proud of her. After that, I edit my husband's next young adult novel in the above series. I finally get back to my own writing in September. If I can finish up LUCINDA, DANGEROUSLY (book 2 — yes, the title changed) by the end of the year without any further distractions, you'll see it out in bookstores August 2009.

Oh, and regarding the indie film my son's in, they're busy editing and doing post-production work. A good chance of seeing it at Sundance and the other major film festivals. In the meanwhile, I've included some great photos that some other people took during the shoot. Here's a link to learn more about what the film is about and to view more photos.
