Son Starring in Independant Movie
More great news, acting-wise. Sunny’s 10-year-old son landed a leading role in “The Kids are Alright,” an independant movie written and directed by Tse Chun. Click here for more details on film. Shooting will take place in July in New York and Boston.

Life is getting fun. Sunny and her family just shot a Bank of America TV commercial, playing Dodgers fans. Should be playing throughout this summer, likely on the west coast.

Sunny & Da’s Book Party

…While in New York recently, I attended the book party of book parties in Greenwich Village—in celebration of Sunny’s Mona Lisa Awakening (Berkley) and her husband Da Chen’s book, Brothers (Crown), both October releases. The party was hosted by Da’s former boss and family friend, Robert S Pirie, the previous president and CEO of the investment banking firm Rothchilds Inc. and the scion of Chicago’s Carson Scott Pirie department stores fortune. Imagine drinking
champagne and nibbling Asian fusion hors d’oeuvres in a beautiful 1870 Manhattan townhouse while standing in front of original art by Toulouse-Lautrec, Thomas Eakins and Degas.

Toute le publishing was there. Guests at the lovely party for this special couple included Hilary Sares, Sunny’s Kensington editor; Cindy Hwang, her Berkley editor; Jenny Frost, president of Crown Publishing Group; Sara Nelson, Publishers Weekly editor-in-chief; and Jill Lamar, Barnes & Noble’s Discover Great New Writers director. Da’s editor, Laura Geringer of Laura Geringer Books (HarperCollins), and his publisher, Shaye Areheart, also attended.

Rounding out the publishing crowd were Oscar-winning actress Marcia Gay Harden; Chloe Breyer, the daughter of Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer; and author and candidate for New York state governor Malachy McCourt. Kenneth and I had a grand time. The evening proved that books and book people do inspire romantic times.
